The Shiley Eye Institute and Viterbi Family Department of Ophthalmology is located in La Jolla on UCSD's health campus and provides primary eye care for all conditions of the eye and surrounding structures, both routine and urgent.  As the only academic eye institute in the region, we offer convenient patient referrals and state-of-the art education and training, as well as access to clinical trials and medical resources.  The department of ophthalmology sees over 120,000 patients a year with 5,400 surgeries. For over 30 years, our world class clinicians, surgeons, scientists and staff have been dedicated to providing the best possible patient care to prevent, treat and cure eye diseases.  

The SCORPIO team at Shiley Eye Institute is led by Dr. Esmeralda McClean, a lead optometrist who is the urgent care director for the department.  We are thrilled to be a part of the SCORPIO study and look forward to seeing the results around the world.
