LOTUS logoAbout the Study

Uveitis is a significant cause of blindness globally and there are many challenges to diagnose infectious etiologies due to the insensitivity of diagnostic testing and limited sample volumes. Technological advancements with high-throughput sequencing have improved diagnostic strategies in medicine and are enabling the detection of several types of infectious organisms. We will collaborate with stakeholders both local and international to enhance the understanding of the pathogenesis of ocular inflammatory diseases to improve upon classification, diagnosis, biomarker identification, and evaluate the host response. This will contribute to further our understanding of the eye as a surveillance site for infectious diseases and provide a comprehensive molecular approach to improve the diagnosis of uveitis.
