The Sydney Eye Hospital is a quaternary referral unit for eye diseases that receives patients from across the state of New South Wales in Australia. Prof Stephanie Watson, the chief investigator for SCORPIO in Australia, is a corneal specialist and the head of the Corneal Research Group at the University of Sydney, Save Sight Institute, and the Head of the Corneal Unit at the Sydney Eye Hospital.

The health research center in Nouna opened in 1992 and has since expanded to include more than forty researchers. Its competence is recognized throughout Burkina and beyond. Prior to SCORPIO, the center has collaborated closely with the University of California in San Francisco on infant mortality and severe acute malnutrition projects. It also collaborates with other European research centers on clinical, environmental and social research projects.

The Laboratorio de Enfermedades Autoinmunes Oculares y Sistémicas (Laboratory of Ocular and Systemic Autoimmune Diseases) is located at the University of Chile in Santiago, Chile. Here, there is a special focus on the development of biomarkers and translational research in Ophthalmology. This research lab is led by clinician Dr. Cristhian A. Urzua, MD and includes a multidisciplinary team of researchers, clinicians, graduate/undergraduate students, fellows and collaborators from Chile and overseas. Areas of interest include Ocular Immunology, Retina and Uveitis, as well as ocular surgery and R&D.

The Saarland University Medical Center (Universitätsklinikum des Saarlandes UKS) is a University Hospital based in Homburg/Saar, Saarland, Germany. The Department of Ophthalmology (Chairman: Prof. Dr. med. Berthold Seitz ML) is a large tertiary cornea center in Germany with more than 670 keratoplasties per year, but also provides care in all subspecialties for patients from Germany, France, and Luxemburg. The department includes the LIONS Eye Bank Saar-Lor-Lux; Trier/Westpfalz, one of the most modern eye banks in Europe, and the Integrative Clinical Study Center (IKSZ) for clinical research. The Aravind Eye Hospital was founded by Dr. Venkataswamy with a mission to "eliminate needless blindness". In 1976 he helped create the GOVEL Trust, under which all Aravind Eye Hospitals were launched. Aravind started as a 11-bed hospital and has now evolved into one of the largest facilities in the world for eye care.

The PNSO was created in 1987 with the primary objective of reducing the prevalence of preventable blindness in Niger. The PNSO organizes treatment for people living in trachoma endemic areas and performs trichiasis surgeries throughout the country. The PNSO has partnered with UCSF for many years and has collaborated on trachoma research projects with Proctor since 2008.

Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital is one of two large teaching hospitals in Johannesburg, South Africa. Associated with the University of the Witwatersrand, tertiary care is provided to the Gauteng region and neighboring provinces. The ophthalmology unit provides care in all sub-specialty disciplines. Current areas of research include ocular surface squamous neoplasia, genetics in glaucoma and botox for strabismus. We are excited about our collaboration with the team UCSF.

Founded in 1958 and administered by the Veterans Affairs Council, the Taipei Veterans General Hospital is a tertiary referral teaching hospital. Here, first-class care is provided to Taipei City and the surrounding areas. Additionally, this group is active in both basic and clinical research. A highlight of their basic research is the use of a dry eye mouse model to investigate the crosstalk between the immune system and nervous system in dry eye pathogenesis. Clinical research is broad ranging and includes meibomian gland dysfunction treatment to diagnosis and treatment of challenging corneal infections.
